In what may have been the simplest meal of all times my husband and I became true believers in the difference of pastured meat. This hickory smoked ham was the last big dinner to cook from our Five Marys farm box. I had defrosted it and planned on cooking it for our Sunday family dinner however we wound up eating out so this fancy ham became a weeknight meal. When we got home from school and work I put the whole ham in the slow cooker with a cup of orange juice and set it to cook on low for two hours. That’s it, my part of dinner that night was done. Simple as that.
Dan carved the ham while Scarlet peeled and diced some carrots to steam with peas.
We served the ham, peas and carrots with a ready made whole grain rice blend and some honey mustard sauce that Scarlet made for her homemade pretzels over the weekend (we will post those next time, we forgot to photograph them, they were devoured too quickly!).
During dinner Dan said how much he has loved the meat we have been eating. His actual quote was “this meat is so good I feel like we’ve been missing out all this time. This is the real deal, everything else tastes fake now.” I definitely agree! Can’t wait to see what comes in our next box!!
